We set Formby Community FC up in March 2019. Having been involved with grassroots football for a number of years we recognised that football brings together people from across the community, but could also be a vehicle for community cohesion.
Childrens football is large factor in the club, as it has the most teams, but we have also started a mums team and dads team, and are looking at starting walking football, which is an exciting prospect for us and the wider Community.
As a brand new club, we are focused in the first year to keep a steady membership, whilst also engaging people through the love of the game, we also have a 5 year plan of securing our own clubhouse- a community hub where Pensioners can go for a cup of tea, play bridge, or setting up a crafting club, they can also mix with the mother and toddler group, and maybe when teenagers call in on their way home from school to do their homework, they could help our community pensioners to get onto the internet. The whole idea is to try to bring the community closer together and have inter generational socialising.
With the support and backing of a diverse and varied Committee, a childrens committee to represent the voice of the Youth, we hope to deliver on these initiatives- the future is certainly looking bright - the futures orange!!
