The team recently enjoyed a 2nd Annual trip to Madrid. We had 2 games planned and we went from thinking 1 was cancelled to playing a round robin tournament, the only down side being this was being played the same day as our other friendly!
Our 1st game v Très Cantos, we suffered a narrow 2 - 3 loss, towards the end we had turned the game round and looked to be the stronger team but just couldn't quite convert enough chances.
After a short time to shower change kits and get some carbs in us we then travelled to our mini tournament. Our 1st game we were up against Rayo Vallecano we could see these were older and bigger than our earlier opponents. They also turned out to be more physical too.
We took the play after some great individual play before a lay off to take the lead. At the half way point , they equalised we made 4 subs. Fresher legs helped and Our goal provider turned goal scorer. We held on for a 2 - 1 Win.
We then had a rest before our next game, This worked against us with muscles beginning to ache and stiffen up. Our opponent played at a quick temporary raced to a 3 nil lead, we showed our resolve and clawed a goal back before earning a converting a pen, to narrow it to 1 goal. Our opponents went on the break and scored to lead 4 - 2 before the lights went out ensuring we had no time for our comeback.
The rest of our time in Madrid was spent doing touristy things such as Real Madrid Tours, Athletico Tours, Segway Tours, Visiting parks, Rowing on the lake, Shopping, Cathedral visits and sampling the local cuisine.
Fun was had by all, and talk of a 3rd trip has already started !
We Train Tues evenings and play in Liverpool County Premier League U18 Sat mornings.
