It was a lovely bright sunny morning and after for our County Cup game. I knew it would be a tough games as our opponents currently sit top of the league above us.
We started slowly and appeared to be waiting for the ball to come to us rather than going to the ball or player and also relying on the player next to us to get the ball.
A strong side like today's took their chances and opened up the scoring after 3 minutes. They added further goals in after 7, 15, 22, 30 and 32 minutes. Caleb did pull of some good save to prevent it being a higher scoreline. We did have a goal by Gabriel disallowed for being marginally offside, other than that we didn't offer too much going forwards in the 1st half.
2nd Half as always we had a little shuffle around of personnel. This appeared to suit us and we were much more competitive in the 2nd half. Gabriel had a few chances but the physicality of their defenders kept him at bay. Dominic switched to the middle and was protecting the defence, link up play was much better, Calum was working well in both directions, Kieran had a nice few touches with one exceptional pass almost creating a chance. We did concede further goals in the 35,37 and 39 minute. We then pulled one back courtesy off a Sam Mycek free kick causing a defender to head into his own net. Huyton scored again in the 50,62 and 64th minutes.
Sam Burns made some fine saves and can see his confidence growing with further game time.
Although the 2nd half score was only marginally better score wise the difference in level of performance was great to see.
This weeks Man of the Match has been in the mix for it the last 2 games but but pipped by great performances. He's in a new position this season, adapting really well and deserves it today for his determination and never give up attitude.
